He was a pupil of Loggan, and a successful and volumi- nous engraver of portraits. A tablet containing Dr^den's lines to Milton was placed, many years ago, upon the outer — Watling Street — wall of the church of All Hallows, Bread Street, which stood upon the site of the edifice 125 (destroyed in the Great Fire) in which Milton was christened. When the second All Hallows Church was taken down, in 1878, the tablet was inserted in the west wall of Bow Church, where it is still to be seen of every passer-by.
To end at the beginning. Professor Lounsbury.the recognized authority upon the subject, says that there is but one au- thentic portrait of Chaucer in existence— that made by Occleve upon the margin of one of his own works ; a colored draw- ing of the man he styled his Master and his Father.
