THE UNITED STATES BARRACKS.
The United States Barracks, formerly Arsenal, occupy about sixty-nine acres at the extreme northern portion of Washington.
Many objects of interest will be found here, including cannon cap- tured from the British and French. The grounds are tastefully laid out and entered through gates hung on heavy guns.
THE MARINE BARRACK

The Marine Barracks are a short distance north of the Navy Yard entrance between G and I Streets, N. E. The Marine Corps was organized in 1798 as an adjunct to the Navy. The barracks wen burned by the British in 1S14, but were rebuilt at once.
DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR.
This department was created in 1849. It comprises the Patent Office, the General Land Office, the Census Office, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, die Bureau oi Education, the^ Office of the Commis- sioner of Railroads, and the Office of the Geological Survey.
