The Forty-seventh street incinerator destroys the waste left from over one hundred loads of rubbish a day after the articles of value have been sorted. The average weight of a load is approximately i,ooo pounds. The average bulk is approximately jY^ cubic yards. From a test it was found that i pound of refuse would evaporate 1.5 pounds of water, and that 232.7 horse power was pro- duced per hour.
