To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:

These are succeeded by examples of more extensive metasomatic action adjacent to the batholith and presumably under a high temperature. Finally the metasomatic actions at Bald Butte are considered — changes connected with vein fissures and a brecciated state of the rock at a considerable distance from the batholitfi and under conditions which were probably hydrothermal, though the resulting metasomatic changes in the wall rocks resemble to a considerable extent those which are thought to be pro...duced under conditions of higher temperature and pressure.
RELATION OF COMPOSITION TO DISTANCE FROM BATHOLITH.
The only igneous formations within this district producing noticeable effects on their walls are the larger gabbro intrusions north of Little Prickly Pear Creek and much more noticeably the Marysville batholith. The discussions except where otherwise stated apply throughout to the walls of the batholith. The ideal way in which to study the effects of the quartz-diorite invasion on the surrounding sedi- ments would be to follow strata of various compositions from the surrounding region into the metamorphic zone and through this up to the margin of the batholith.
