On that day we were off Lagos, a noted slave- station. It was very hot, and every one of our sur roundings was as different from New England as was possible. We had a big dinner, though, and did our best to celebrate.
The king of the Dahomeys, which is a warlike tribe on the coast, supplies most of the slave traders by selling them his prisoners of war.
