The upper shelf contains one of a pair of hexagonal lanterns, of egg-shell porcelain, with reticulated panels, each with a circular medallion decorated with figures, delicately painted in light colors, and surrounded by borders. Yung-tching period, a.d. 1723-1735. (Another is seen in Case 11.) CASE 8. Twenty-one rose-back and other egg-shell plates, with three and four borders; and eight delicate egg-shell cups and saucers... ; all decorated in enamel colors and gilding over the glaze; half-tones and rose-tint predominating. Yimg- tching period, A. D. 1723-1735. 42 METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART. In this case also is one of a pair of hexagonal egg-shell lanterns, with ovoid body and perforated angular neck. The panels are embellished with figures, landscapes and interiors. The decorative subject appears to be a historical event. It is very skillfully rendered, in very clear and lustrous colors. Khang-he period, a.d. 1661-1722.
