VI The chapter-house and cloister at Salisbury, like the church itself, stand to-day as at first constructed, and date from the Early English period. Every cathedral chapter needed, of course, a chapter-house for its assemblings ; but only monastic houses needed cloister- walks for the daily recreation of the monks who led their lives in common.
