" She sug- gested the 4th of July to him as the time to begin operations. And Mr. Sanborn adds : " It was about the 4th of July, as Harriet, the African sybil, had suggested, that Brown first showed himself in the counties of Washington and Jefferson, on opposite sides of the lordly Potomac. " I find among her papers, many of which are de- faced by being carried about with her for years, Harriet^ the Moses of Her People.
