This de- mand not being complied with, a hissing conce...rt was organized for the reception of a new Danish actor, and this demonstration resulted in the en- gagement of a number of Norwegian actors; but the Danish director continued to treat Norwegian matters in a very stepmotherly fashion, and he was especially reproached for his neglect of Nor- wegian literature. After the hissing concert there had been a cessation of hostilities, which lasted until Henrik Ibsen offered " The Chieftains " to the Christiania theatre in 1857, his own theatre not being well enough equipped to produce it.
