The engagement became close and severe. At length the Americans charged through the enemy's ranks, and made good their retreat. The loss of Indians in this action was twenty-five killed, and perhaps double that number wounded. The Americans in killed and wounded lost eleven. The savages were mounted on horses, and armed with guns, pistols, lances, shields, and bows and arrows.
