True, many of the offensivefeatures in this mythology and ritual are survivals from a veryancient past, a pre-historic time in which morals were conspicuouslyabsent from religion; the priesthood has forgotten very little, and asa rule has only added new rituals and new interpretations to thislegacy from the days of old.
