THE BAPTIST CHURCHES.
Ahhough the Baptists were the last of the great religious bodies to effect an or- ganization in Baltimore they have here, as elsewhere, risen to almost the first position in point of numerical strength. The Methodists alone outnumber them in ad- herents. Their growth has been marvelous, especially when one recalls the persecution and bitter opposition they received in the early days of New England, and in some of the other colonies.
