The bank opened at Green Bay in the town of . \stor in 1833 and was known as the Bank of Wisconsin. The build- ing which it occupied was erected by the Astor Fur Company, a rambling two- storv structure which extended the width of the block on the north side of Chicago street between Adams and Washington. The stone vault which was built for this first bank in Wisconsin was still standing in 1899, its heavy door efying the corrosion of time.
