About 1770, his three sons, Joseph Andrew and Jnhn, ]Mn-chased a large tract of land in ^Maryland, at what is now Ellicott's .Mills and removed thither,^" taking with them mechanics, tools, animals, wagons, laborers, and several settlers and tlieir families.
