The Pope Silverius was accused of treasonable correspondence with the Goths, witnesses were suborned to support this improbable charge against him, who had yielded up the city to the conqueror.
Belisarius..., it is said, endeavoured to save the Pope from February, degradation, by inducing him to accede to the March. 63t. wishes of Thcodora, to condemn the Council of Chalcedon, and to communicate with Anthimus.
