He pros- pered financially and had accumulated a snug fortune, when one day the traitor Benedict Arnold, in command of a British expedition, appeared on the shore of the Sound, and the next morning Critehett was homeless and poor, having snatched his infant son and barely managed to escape from his burning dwelling.
