In Aug. the regi- ment was ordered to Fort Lyon, where it remained until April ISO:^, wlien six companies were marched to Fort Leavenworth. In June Leavenworth was placed in command of all tlie troops on tlie Santa Fe road, M'ith headquart- ers at Fort Lamed. The Indians and the confederates together gave him plenty of employment.
