The private letters were returned unopened to the post office, but public dispatches from t...he British fovernment to the Governors of Virginia, the two Carolinas, Georgia, and East 'lorida, were opened and read. These furnished abundant evidence of the deter- mination of England to coerce America by a military force. About the same time a letter from Governor Wright, of Georgia, ' to General Gage, commander of the King's army, then in Boston, was intercepted by the secret committee. It Contained a request to General Gage to send a detachment of his majesty's forces to awe the people of Georgia.
