On Boakd the Steamer "Arago,"' Sunday, July 20th, 1862.
The band arose early this morning ; there was a light rain, and the wind was blowing quite brisk. The band played the familiar hsrmn, "Old Hundred." The music aroused a great many of the guests, and under the inspiration of the melodious sounds joined in unison with the band, and the harmony produced brought forth many tears. ...oard led the singing in the grand and solemn service. The ship arrived at Hampton Road in the morning and received orders to report at Newport News, Va., where our regiment went into camp for some days, and met the Forty-eighth Regiment.
August 4th, 1862. Marched aboard the transport Elm City, and proceeded to Fortress Monroe, thence up the Potomac River and landed at the mouth of Acquia Creek. Here we received orders to go aboard the cars, and after about five miles' ride arrived at Brookes Station, where we remained for some time, guarding the railroad to Fredericksburg.
