The organ was finished in 1820 at a cost of $3, 500, and Lowell Mason, the well known composer of church music, was engaged as organist with a salary of $300 per annum. It was during this engagement of Lowell Mason's that he composed the well known tune '• Mis- sionary Hymn" and set it to the words of the hymn '"From Greenland's Icy Mountains" (written by Bishop Heber) for use at a missionary meeting in this Church, where it was sung for the first time.
