In 1883, through the efforts of Dr. Buehrle, the library made special arrangements to issue books to the schools, at reduced rates, which con- tinued for some time, but was aban- doned.
In 1885 Dr. R. K. Buehrle was elected Secretary, the old limitation of "me- chanics only" as officers having be- come obsolete. He held the office (348) until 1900, when the late Joseph D. Pyott was elected.
