JAMES HENDERSON.

He was born at Laurencekirk in the third decade of the present century, his parents being George Henderson and Margaret Masson, a sister of Ed- ward Masson. Mr Henderson received his educa- tion at the parish school, and gave early indication of a taste for literary work. His first appointment on leaving his native parish was in the establishment of Messrs Murray, publishers, Glasgow ; and he left the service of that firm to commence the business of a publisher on his own account.
