The castle was built in 1528, and presents the charac- teristics of the Scottish baronial style of architecture; consisting of a high square tower with ornamental turrets and massive walls. Additions have been made to it from time to time. The old hall is still preserved, and on its walls are a number of family portraits, some of which are by Jamesone.
