This sounds like the plea of an honest man and a patriot; one who merely wished well to his country, and ill to those whom he deemed her enemies. Before passing upon that point, however, the reader should know that Mr. Magraw, the writer of the letter, was an ex-mail contractor who, with his partner, J. M. Hockaday, had been conducting a mail service from Independence, Missouri, to Salt Lake City, under contract with the general government.
