Roots, or Sets. — Procure from an established plantation, five bushels for each acre to be planted, of what are termed "runners," or grow- ing shoots. These have eyes, or sets of eyes, from two to three inches apart. Cut them care- full}'- into pieces containing two sets of eyes, re- jecting all bruised ones. After they are cut, and immediately before planting, sprinkle the sets,

Runners, before or after they are cut in pieces, may be trans- ported to any part of the country without in- jur}'.
