So fierce, so untamed, that even the chuck-will's-widow ceased on a half note, and momentarily there was pulsating silence as the creatures paused, c|uivering, and listened. The bobcat was at its hunting.
Somewhere among the canes there crouched a bi'owii, furry animal, a short-tailed cat three feet long. It came on huge soft feet through the devious paths of the cane into the more open places of tlic forest, through the feras, sniffing, hunting.
