The sentimentalism which refused to diange a thing because it was old is giving place to laws passed by organised bodies that ride over our old- time notions without giving the astonished objector time to formulate a vehement objection.
It is hard to believe that America will be com- pelled to adopt many of the civil laws now in vogue in France and England, and still harder to be- lieve that some things not yet dreamt of in Europe will soon be initiated in the United States.
