So far as costs of production and the prices of articles produced by union labor are raised by increased wages, by reductions of hours of 12 work, or by " making work, " the advantages gained by union laborers must be paid for by all consumers, including the union laborers themselves, in proportion to their consumption of these articles. The union laborers themselves can retain the advantages gained by them only so long as the great majority of other laborers and farmers do not obtain similar advantages.
