The aspect is southern, and as the prevailing wind during the hot summer months is south-Avest, a good breeze from off the sea is enjoyed. The tempera- ture at the Peak is eight degrees lower than that of the city ; so that even during the hottest months a blanket at night is Avelcome. The chief draAvback to the hill retreat is that during the rainy season fogs are 522 HONG-KONG apt to prevail, and everything is drenched with damp. The Governor has an official residence at the Peak, there are two large and well-appointed hotels, bungalows for the Government servants in summer, and a private hospital conducted by a firm of medical men in the colony.
