In sentencing Mr. Gandhi the judge expressed the high- est admiration for his personal character and the deep- est regret that he was compelled to find him guilty. On his side Mr. Gandhi complimented the judge on the fair- ness of the trial. This great-souled leader in his final message to his followers commanded them not to use violence as a protest against his imprisonment. And no violent protest occurred.
