of our world of sense or even of our fancy; no thinker has ever lived who rested his metaphysic more explicitly on the world of sense-perception. His chief aim was to show that the indescribable "matter" of the materialists was a fiction unin- telligible and in itself contradictory; it could therefore have no value.
