What reading level is Ireland book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:

This type occurs in most of the Irish counties, hut is especially numerous in south Lcinster. Taken as a whole these forts appear to he the latest of the various types ; some may belong to the period of the Anglo-Norman invasion of Ireland.
4. Motes. A mote is a mound of earth generally about 20 ft. To 40 ft. High witli steep sides, and a flat top from about 30 ft. To 100 ft. Across : the mound as a rule is circular in plan, and may be wholly or partly artificial, with, frequently, an attached
...fortified court or bailey. The mote is usually surrounded by a fosse as is also the bailey, the ditch of the latter usually joining that of the mound. The bailey is often shield- or crescent- shaped ; it is frequently hard to trace flu- remains of either bailey or fosse, which causes confusion between earthworks that are undoubtedly Norman motes and others that are just as certainly Celtic tumuli. The Normans probably made use of any suitable mound for the purpose of a mote-castle, thus, many so-called Norman motes may only be re-used Celtic tumuli.
