One of these took his pipe from his mouth, and with a slow drawling voice said, ' Dook, I guess this EngHshman can tell you some- thincf of the other dooks.' 142 JOHN MAIDMENT The speaker nodded sideways at John, at whom the new-comer seemed to be staring, though the shadow of his broad-brimmed hat made it impossible to see his eyes.
