William went on to become president of Alexandria Canal Company and the Old Dominion Bank. He was also the founder of the Alexandria Water and Gas Compa- ny. He married Esther Dashiell Taylor (cat. 9s) in 1808, and the couple is reputed to have had eighteen children — eight of whom survived to maturity.
