Since the Act was passed we have collected and paid to the City Treasurer $25,099.93 for the quarter ending August 31, 1897; $25,271.14 for the quarter ending November 30, 1897; $25,343.14: for the quarter ending February 28, 1898; and $25,727.57 for the quarter end- ing May 31, 1898; making a total of $101,441.78 for the year en...ding May 31, 1898. This added to tJne $67,996.39 collected imder the Act of June 26, 1895, shows a total of $169,438.17. In addition to this amount we have a bill in the Auditor-Ge^neral's office for $26,064 for the quarter ending August 31, 1898, and the bills for the lialance of the year 1898 would be approximately $34,700, making a grand total of $230,202.17 to December 31, 1898.
The cost of maintenance in the State Hospitals is from $3.60 to $4.00 per week for each patient. In 1891 the cost, in tliis institution, was $2.17 35-100; in 1895 it w^as reduced to $1.75 per week, and since the Act of May 25, 1897, went into effect the cost to the City for maintaining her indigent insame patients in this institution will not exceed 70 cents per week for each person.
