T...homas Sumner Minot was born Au- gust 18, 1862, in Brunswick, Maine, son of Alexander Baker Minot and Mary (Ramsdell) Minot. His father's line runs back to Elder George Minot, who settled at Salem, Massachusetts, May 30, 1630. Elder George Minot was the son of Thomas Minot, Esq. , Secre- tary to the Abbot of Walden, Essex, England.
After completing his education in England Mr. Minot returned and spent three years studying law with Hon. John A. Gray and General J. M. Siglin at Marshfield, Oregon, and was admitted to the bar at Salem, Oregon, in 1896.
