The total amount of inhabitants may be said to include those of Salford, Ardwick, Brougliton, Chorlton-row ^ Hulme, and Pendleton; the last named place, though in the parish of Eccles, must be considered as contributing to the population of Manchester. Markets. — ^The markets of Manchester, not including Salford, or any of the other townships, are under the regulation of the lord of the manor, both as to number and situation. Every day in the week, with the exception of Sundays, provisions of all kinds are exposed for sale, but the regular market-days are four. Tuesday is the principal day set apart for the sale of provisions and manufactures ; Wednesday for cattle ; Thursday and Saturday are also market-days for provision and manufactures.
