E. A subject which cannot be thought as a predicate : its fallacy rather lies in a further assumption that the Ego is a simple substance and therefore indestructible. But similar simple, indestructible substances had also been not only sought but (believed to be) found by the reason of metaphysicians in the material world : and the search for such permanent indestructibles was by no means identical with the effort to find a subject which could not be thought as a predicate.
