Where shall the metaphysician learn to correct the wandering of his thoughts and to keep his feet firmly planted upon the ground of common sense so surely as in the natu- ral sciences, where alone his theological speculations are secured against both pantheistic and atheistic ten- dencies, and where alone he can learn his true relation to the wholly mortal races, and his real points of supe- ribrity to them ?
