What reading level is Life of James Sullivan With Selections From His Writings volume 1 book?
To quickly assess the difficulty of the text, read a short excerpt:

It seemed, moreover, of doubtful expediency to retain a ter- ritory so circumstanced that it might easily become among - ourselves a cause of dissension or corruption. Whether it- would have been more judicious, or not, to retain it, the suggestion that there was any undue influence brought to bear upon the General Court seems utterly without found- ation. The well recognized wisdom, integrity and public spirit, of those then directing the government, repels such a supposition.
Oliver Phelps, o
...f Suffield, who enjoyed great popular- ity in Massachusetts, organized a company in the spring of 1788 (of which Judge Sullivan was a member, though with OF JAMES SULLIVAN. 173 only a small share), and made application to the Legislature for leave to purchase one million of acres. Many other influential Individuals came forward with similar proposals ; among them Nathaniel Gorham, one of the most distin- guished citizens of the stair, and who had been president of the Continental Congress. A compromise between the several parties was finally effected, by which Gorham and Phelps became the chief purchasers, and the rest were admitted to take such interest in the enterprise as they felt disposed.
