He bore with great patience many privations and much suffering incident to his state; and died in June, 1840. Never was there a kinder heart than his. Till his mind became aflected by illness, he had at command a large fund of information; he was an eminently good historian, was fond of litera- ture and the arts, especially of music and painting, and had a peculiar insight into character; nothing escaped his observation.
