I allude, of course, to the battle of Oriskany, which sealed the fate of Burgoyne and led to the French alliance. But does every schoolboy know that by heart? Has he had that in story, LOCAL HISTORY 23 song and picture? Does he see that as though it were actually taking place before his eyes? NO! Some of our school text- books on American history do not even mention it, and very few of them recognize its importance.
New York is rich in history. She is an empire in herself with the history of an empire.
