The stream of emigration began during the earliest days of the Turkish conquest of Serbian territory in 1371, and afterwards proceeded uninterruptedly. Vuk Brankovic, the son of Branko Mladenovic, lord of Ochrida and its neighbourhood, is mentioned sub- sequently to 1371 as living in Serbia as lord of part of Kosovo Polje and the surrounding territory.
