In the traumatic variety, however, the fixity is greatest at first, and the movements subsequently improve ; in the tuberculous form, the limitation of movement gradually increases until complete ankylosis supervenes. Prolonged immobiliza- tion, followed, if need be, by incision and partial removal of the synovial membrane, often suffices in children, leaving, how- ever, a stiff elbow, which must be left alone until growth is completed.
