J/ M ) bezeichnet; dann wird aus dem Gauss'schen Congruenzbegritf die Congruenz nach einem Modulsystem abgeleitet, indem zwei Grossen des Bereiches einander nach diesem Systeme congruent genannt werden, wenn ihre Differenz gleich einer Summe SC^J^ gesetzt werden kann, in der die Coefficienten C^ ebenfalls ganze Grossen von (R' } R", ... ) sind.
Diese Einfuhrung von (M 1} M^, ... M.^ ist eben so einfach als weittragend, wie sich bereits in manchen neueren Arbeiten gezeigt hat ; mit ihrer Hiilfe gelingt es, die algebraischen Satze in Form von Identitaten auszusprechen.
