I make no reflection against the church or its clergy ; they have done wonders, and wrought mar- vellous works in reclaiming an idolatrous people from image worship, and the sacrifice of human beings to hideous stones ; yet the field remains seemingly but half-worked, and there is abundant room for Christian labor, yea, for all manner of labor looking to the wel- fare of our fellow-creatures.
