The pro- ceeds of all lands granted for the support of a seminary of learning were, by the act of the Legislature dated Febru- ary 20, 1840, "appropriated for the use and benefit of the University of the State of Mississippi. New depart- ments of instruction need to be added in order to keep the scope and character of its work fully abreast with what is done in similar institutions.
