Early in 18G3 Rev. W. Achenbach of Grand Rapids commenced to preach to the Germans of... this place, and his successor, Rev. J. L, Dail. organized a church among them on the Sth day of April, 186G, himself becoming the 'first pastor. In 1871 a number of the members joined themselves into a separate organization, adopting the title, "Reformed Evangelical Lutheran Immanuel's Church of Grand Haven township."' In 1883 this church turned into a "Union Church," joining itself to its younger but stronger sister. The successors, in the old church, of Rev. Dail were: Rev. A. M.
W. Kachler, who was soon compelled to resign through ill-health; Rev.
