This threaded ring meshes with threads cut in the upper outside portion of each of the three chuck jaws d. Evi...dently, when the wrench is turned, pinion a turns sleeve b and threaded ring c, which is an integral part of the sleeve, thus either pushing down or lifting chuck jaws d according to the direction in which the wrench is turned. By having jaws d inclined to the axis of the drill, raising or lowering the jaws causes them to release their grip on the drill shank or to secure a firm grip.
