From these original habitations the said breeds have been widely scattered over the whole country and have only partly been preserved by pure breeding. In the great majority of cases, however, they have been interbred. No wonder that in many parts of the country a many-coloured medley of the three breeds has thus been generated, manifesting itself in a great variety of colour and shape peculiar to the Dutch stock of cattle.
